Do You Believe?

It’s been an incredibly tough year for pretty much everyone in Nigeria and even tougher for our micro and small businesses.

But I’m not going to talk about what has happened - we all know it. Instead, I want to focus on what will happen if we are determined to rise above the insurmountable challenges.

Before we proceed, I have some questions for you: Do you believe in your business’ potential? Do you believe in it enough to not dwell on the numerous excuses you have for not pushing forward? Do you believe in it enough to invest your time, resources and effort UNTIL you get your desired results? If you answered “yes” to all, then my letter today is for you.

As an entrepreneur, you know this journey is not easy and it’s one that requires a persistent quantum of resilience. There’s so much within your control and even more that is outside of your control e.g. COVID-19 but nonetheless, what matters most is your next course of action.

Will you cower or will you take the bull by its horns?

2020 isn’t a write-off as many people have concluded. In fact, I strongly believe that it has been a year of much needed recalibration, alignment and clarity especially for those who have been moving fast with no direction. Many entrepreneurs finally got the chance to slow down and re-evaluate where they were REALLY heading with their companies.

The slowing-down aspect is so important and for the discerning amongst us, you’d also perceive that 2020 will be a make-or-break foundation for what you can achieve in 2021 and beyond.

What opportunities did you spot and capitalise on? What resources do you need to invest in, to position your business for success? Who do you need to get onboard your team for your business to meet its objectives? How will you improve your processes and systems to support the vision you have for your business?

The zeal and energy you’ll put into building your business will be largely determined by if you believe in your business’ potential. So again I ask, “Do you believe in your business’ potential? Do you believe in it enough to not dwell on the numerous excuses you have for not pushing forward? Do you believe in it enough to invest your time, resources and effort UNTIL you get your desired results?”

If you’re not sure, I want you to return to the genesis of why you started your business and the impact you intended to have. Check if you’re still on track or if you have swayed so far you don’t even recognise what you’re building.

It’s okay not to have all the answers but it’s not okay to stop seeking the answers. And seeking answers starts with asking or being asked the right questions.

So, what next? It’s a new month and a great time to stop struggling on your business journey alone. We at What Next, Coach? are here to support you all the way.
